Maundy Thursday

What Is Maundy Thursday?

Maundy Thursday is the Thursday before Easter, believed to be the day when Jesus celebrated his final Passover with His disciples. Most notably, that Passover meal was when Jesus washed the feet of His disciples in an extraordinary display of humility. He then commanded them to do the same for each other.

Christ's "mandate" is commemorated on Maundy Thursday---"maundy" being a shortened form of mandatum (Latin), which means "command."  It was on the Thursday of Christ's final week before being crucified and resurrected that He said this commandment to His disciples. Jesus and his disciples had just shared what was known as the Last Supper and he was washing their feet when he stated:

"A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another" (John 13:34).

What will we do?

Our church seeks to commemorate the mandate Christ gave during the last supper by enjoying a meal of our own. We will have a potluck style meal while reading and reflecting through a liturgy that involves the whole family (from parents to children).

Please do make time to join us for this intentional and meaningful feast.

Good Friday

Good Friday

What Is Good Friday?

The Good Friday of holy week is a day set aside to commemorate the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ on the cross on our behalf. Good Friday begins with the betrayal in the Garden of Gethsemane by his disciple, Judas Iscariot, and ends with his body being laid to rest within the tomb Friday evening. When we remember and meditate on the passages of scripture related to Good Friday, we face the frank reality of our miserable and fallen state, the righteous judgment and debt incurred, and the ultimate sacrifice endured by our savior to pay that debt on our behalf. The day also points us forward to the resurrection of Christ and that “Death is swallowed up in victory!”

What will we do?

As this day is in remembrance of a somber moment, the crucifixion and death of Christ, we practice a more solemn service. Short and reflective, this service is colored with more somber and slow songs, a short homily, and silent reflection as we leave once the service is over.

Easter Sunday

What is Resurrection Sunday?

It is when we as Christians glorify and give thanks for the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. After His crucifixion, death, and burial, Christ rose from the grave three days later. By this, He conquered death and redeemed us from sin.

What will we do?

We will celebrate this wonderful news in a joint service with Chester Community church (hence the morning slot) by singing joyful songs and hymns and hearing the word expounded for us followed by an easter egg hunt and food after the service.
